Can We Stop This Happening Again

10) Burnt Out Miners Hut

A careless match in a non drawing flue of the fireplace turned a neat, cosy Miners Hut like the building opposite, into an ashy ruin. This display is left in place to remind visitors that The Mogo State Forest and much of the Australian Bush is highly flammable Eucalyptus. Many people have no idea of how quickly a fire can rage out of control, through high temperature and winds. Despite the best efforts of the Fire Brigade and volunteers in the Rural Bush Fire Service over the last decade, there has been enormous loss of property and life due to fires such as Ash Wednesday.

Please check that you are not in a bush fire danger period when open fires are prohibited before lighting camp fires. We are all responsible for the care and preservation of our National heritage.
