Integrating Your School Day Trips & Camps With Lesson Plans for NSW HSIE & Australian Curriculum

The Original Gold Rush Colony staff has researched the NSW HSIE syllabus and Australian Curriculum syllabus and created an overview for teachers, which has been approved by visiting teachers.

The teacher's planning aid integrates the NSW Syllabus Outcomes and Australian Curriculum with the educational opportunities created by the Gold Rush Colony school excursions and overnight school camp venue. The educational programs and activities become a springboard for learning - either pre or post excursion or camp.

NSW Schools Syllabus:

Teachers will find 2 different formats of the information, in the planning aid document, to facilitate the different methods used for sourcing material.

1. A summary of each of the strands covered in Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE), and where the outcomes fit in with The Gold Rush Colony's School programs, activities and resource tools.
2. An easy-to-read table for each Original Gold Rush Colony Programs, with the HSIE Outcomes listed vertically, the table columns indicate which stage: Early Stage,  Stage 1,  Stage 2 and Stage 3
3. Australian Curriculum

Australian Curriculum Year 5 Content:

Australian History provides a study of colonial Australia in the 1800's.  Students look at the founding of British colonies and the development of a colony.  They learn about what life was like for different groups of people in the Australian colonial period.  They examine Australia's significant events and people, political and economic developments, social structures, and settlement patterns.

The Educational Programs at The Original Gold Rush Colony addresses the  Australian Curriculum History Content Description - ACHHKO93, ACHHKO94, ACHHK095,ACHHKO96 and ACHHKO97.

School Excursions and School Camps Venue with Group Accommodation

The Original Gold Rush Colony is conveniently located in Mogo near Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast within easy reach for Schools from the local area, Canberra ACT, Illawarra and Sydney NSW. The Colony provides unique opportunities for Schools on the 16 acre property.

There are many areas and buildings that can be utalised by schools, purpose built school groups accommodation, catering and activity planning (on-site and off-site). Schools packages and programs are all tailored to meet your school's needs.
