The Festival of Braidwood

A Celebration of Braidwoods Heritage

News - Festival of Braidwood Parade
Event Date:
5 May 2012 - 6 May 2012

The Festival of Braidwood is a celebration of Braidwood and district’s heritage and culture, from the earliest Australian settlers, through the gold rush years, federation and to the present.

The district was discovered by Europeans in the 1820’s and settled in the late 1820’s and 1830’s. The village of Braidwood, named after Dr. Thomas Braidwood Wilson, a highly respected pioneer of the district, was gazetted in 1839.

The whole of the village was heritage listed in 2006. Braidwood is located halfway between Canberra in the ACT and Batemans Bay on the South Coast of NSW. It is a restful country township that has a lot to offer and the festival showcases the town's local arts and crafts, characters and history.

Festival activities will take place in Braidwood's Ryer park and amongst the many exciting events are demonstrations of whip making, candle making, blade shearing, traditional woodcrafts, pioneer furniture manufacturing, blacksmithing, spinning, coopering, Vintage engines, cars trucks and tractors. A wide variety of stalls will be selling arts and crafts goods on the day.

Braidwood is the perfect halfway stopping point on the Kings Highway when travelling between Canberra and Batemans Bay and the stunning coastal villages of the NSW south coast.
