The Old Gold Folk Club

Free Concert at Mogo - NSW South Coast Folk

Reuben Oddy, Fiddler in Residence
Event Date:
16 Feb 2014

Sunday February 16 is another free concert hosted by the Old Gold folk club in the Diggers Rest Tavern at the Original Gold Rush Colony, Mogo.

An afternoon of local musicians entertaining the crowd is planned from 4pm to 7pm, with the monthly concerts featuring olde, traditional and modern folk acts with the Oddy family hosting the evening.

The Oddy family is an acoustic folk band comprising of father Quentin on guitar and lead vocals, oldest son Josiah -  finger-style classical and contemporary guitarist -  on his favourite resonator guitar and fiddler in residence youngest son Rueben, who has recently been appointed Concert Master of The Canberra Youth Orchestra.

The Oddy Family plays an assortment of songs dating from the 17th century through to modern day with a bluegrass twist.

The evening will also feature singers, an array of stringed instrument and players on requinto guitar, ukulele and banjo ukulele. Lead by Holger Boschinen and Mark Buckley, the players perform songs from the American dust belt dating back to the great depression.

Previously, the multi talented Irish folk band, Ballyhooley, has been a part of the entertainment and they are currently on a well earned break, although they may well surprise us with a guest appearance (you just can’t stop musicians).

Audience participation and walk up performances are greatly encouraged so all players are more than welcome.

If any players or singers would like some musical backing the Oddy boys are more than happy to accompany so long as you ask, and some chord music is always helpful. So grab your instruments and your slightly rehearsed tunes and come along.

During interval there is a folk jam planned, so for those who just want to bring and instrument or a song it can be included in the group play.

The Old Gold Folk Club is on Sunday 16th and each 3rd Sunday afternoon of the month from 4-7pm at The Diggers Rest in the Gold Rush Colony, Mogo.  For further details call Georgina at the Gold Rush Colony on 4474 2123.

Admission is free; bar service and great meals are available - but NO EFTPOS. Remember bring an instrument, your singing voice and tell a friend.
