The Old Gold Folk Club

About a year ago, local folkies were sitting around, yet again lamenting the lack of a local folk club.  But this time we decided to do something about it.  But where?  A folk club needs a "just right" venue—warm, quiet, encouraging, friendly.  A bit of history wouldn't hurt.  And a bar would be nice.

It's July 1880 in Mogo. Dan and Florence Murphy are putting on a Christmas Dinner for the Miners. Alas, all sorts of things go wrong. Strange characters arrive. A murder is planned. Father Kelly is excited about the carols. Another stranger appears. Can he really play the piano? Or is he a scoundrel? Who stole the Christmas pudding? Come along and see.

Sunday March 16 is a free concert hosted by the Old Gold Folk Club in the Diggers Rest Traven at the Original Gold Rush Colony Mogo. An afternoon of local musicians entertaining the crowd is planned from 4pm to 7pm, with the monthly concerts featuring traditional and roots music. This Sunday will be hosted by members of the local “Oddy family band”, an acoustic folk band of father and sons.

At the end of the final performance of The Wake of Joe Flanagan, Colin took centre stage to explain the stories behind his two pieces of Aboriginal Art, about the wise whale that explains the duties of a man in a family, and the need to seek a bride from outside your own clan.

The Wake Of Joseph Flanagan

Come and join the mourners at 'The Wake of Joseph Flanagan'.

Enjoy a great theatre melodrama and sing-a-long to some rousing Irish songs whilst dining on a scrumptious 2 course meal.

The performance is on Saturday 15th February 2014. Arrive from 3.30 pm to 4.15 pm with the main meal served at 5.45 pm.
