The Original Gold Rush Colony was initially developed as Old Mogo Town by local businessman - Ron Prior. Ron, founder of Prior's Bus Service (Batemans Bay), was a councillor for The Eurobodalla Shire and owner of 26 acres on James St at Mogo, which he had purchased from Ken and Kath Ware.

Community Member - June Lotzof.

June Lotzof was born in Johannesburg South Africa, in the turbulent time between the wars. During her youth, times were hard as it was for so many.  June learned from her teacher parents, that education was the one thing that can never be taken away from you.

Community Member - Maureen Nathan

Maureen has a very chequered background. Born in Durban South Africa and migrating to Australia as a teenager.

Maureen Nathan the Managing Director of the Original Gold Rush Colony, and her mother June Lotzof were both born in South Africa. The Lotzof family immigrated to Australia in 1960, because Dr Len Lotzof wanted to live in a country free from bigotry and racism, where hard work was rewarded, and tolerance and a fair go were king.

Many members of staff have a history with The Bay Theatre Players, the excellent local amateur theatrical group. These include Rob Wombey, Ross Hosking, Bob Soper, Barbara Gellatly, Elizabeth McLennan, Maureen Nathan.

Mogo State Forest From the Air

The Original Gold Rush Colony is bounded on 3 sides by the Mogo State Forest, with an underground riparian waterway flowing through the Theme Park. Three lakes were built by previous owners.

The Staff of the Original Gold Rush Colony are encouraged to practice that they work with the owners and management, and not for them. We have a suggestions and observations log, where changes to operational systems and procedures of any aspect of the business can be noted for immediate consideration by management and owners.

30) Diggers Rest Tavern Bar

Maureen believes that there is an absolute need for employees and employers to be able to all identify the goals of the business, then all work out ways to achieve them for the mutual benefit of owners, staff and clientèle.

The overriding company philosophy of the Original Gold Rush Colony is to encourage and foster ownership in what the Colony represents.
